Guests were staring.

\nThe bride\u2019s brother was annoyed because Max\u2019s car was blocking the entrance.<\/p>\n

I calmly told him, \u201cThat\u2019s what happens when you steal someone else\u2019s car.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was a long silence. Then he said, very quietly, \u201cCan you turn it back on?\u201d<\/p>\n

I said I would\u2014after he apologized to me, returned the gift, and left the wedding immediately.<\/p>\n

He did all three.<\/p>\n

When he came home, humbled and red-faced, I reminded him that marriage isn\u2019t about control, jealousy, or embarrassment. It\u2019s about respect.<\/p>\n
