It didn\u2019t come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not home,\u201d I said quietly. \u201cI\u2019m working. I\u2019m on calls. I\u2019m billing insurance. I can\u2019t do that and chase a toddler all day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He rolled his eyes. \u201cPeople have done it forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd people burn out forever, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The conversation ended the way it always did \u2014 with me giving in. Then he started staying late at work.
