I walked up to their classroom and saw Alice sitting at her desk, her backpack already on, hands folded the way she did when she was nervous.

Miss Jackson stood near the board, erasing something slowly, like she wasn\u2019t in a hurry at all.<\/p>\n
Alice saw me and jumped up. \u201cMom!\u201d she said, running over. She hugged me tighter than usual.<\/p>\n

I thanked Miss Jackson and took Alice\u2019s hand. As we turned to leave, Karen was standing in the doorway. She caught my eye and finally spoke.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe does that,\u201d Karen said quietly. \u201cPicks one kid at a time. Private lessons. Private rides home. My son stopped talking after her class.\u201d<\/p>\n
Miss Jackson\u2019s smile vanished.<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t argue. I didn\u2019t yell. I just walked straight to the principal\u2019s office and told them everything\u2014every word, every detail, every secret.<\/p>\n
They called the police.<\/p>\n
That night, Alice cried in my arms and told me things no ten-year-old should ever think were normal. Things Miss Jackson told her were \u201cspecial.\u201d<\/p>\n
The next day, Miss Jackson didn\u2019t come to school.<\/p>\n
She never did again.<\/p>\n
