The problem, which I told my manager weeks ago, is simple: I am not going. I genuinely like my job, but I intensely dislike this forced \u201cwe are a family\u201d workplace narrative. I informed my manager that I already had alternative plans for that night, but I kept the personal details to myself.<\/p>\n
My manager had assured me it was \u201cOK\u201d to skip the party, yet no one mentioned I would still have to pay for an event I declined. I went straight to HR and formally asked for my money back.
