I flipped the photograph over. Taped to the back was a handwritten note on thick, cream-colored cardstock.<\/p>\n
“You probably didn\u2019t recognize me,” the elegant script read, “but I recognized you the second you stepped up to the register. Thirty years ago, you stayed with my mother and me in the rain until the tow truck arrived. You bought us dinner and got me that fire truck so I wouldn’t be scared. You paid our bill that day when we had absolutely nothing. $173 is a small price to pay for the man who gave a terrified kid a reason to smile.
